Adding to Sean's concerns, let me bring a possible scenario. Our help to Ukraine carries a risk: "If Ukrainian resistance inflicts any pain to the Russian occupiers, it is not hard to guess that Russia will try to disable the source of that help. In short, it will not take long, before the neighboring NATO countries get pulled into the conflict. That will trigger NATO's Article 5, which requires all members to stand behind the one attacked."

Putin repeatedly insists that Russia needs to protect itself from the West arming Ukraine with nuclear weapons. It means to me that he prepares Russians for the potential use of tactical atomic bombs as a preventive measure. We can speculate where he can hit first.

Przemyśl is a small city of about 60,000, a communication node on the Polish side of the Polish-Ukrainian border. Annihilating that town when critical transports and people are there can help Russia. And would disable a major route for the weapons delivery. Putin will calculate that this would intimidate Ukrainians and Poles and at that same time would warn Americans that any response would mean engaging strategic nuclear bombs, reaching their cities.

After the destruction of Przemyśl (or a comparable target), there would be high pitch talk in Washington but no military response. Americans would wait for the Putin's version of Pearl Harbor.
