By the fact that Umair Haque mentions Soviets in the title it does not mean that his writing is logically coherent. Americans do not choose between their money and their lives. Contrary to socialistic propaganda, people need money to have dignified life. Middle class is disappearing in the United States in the same time and the same pace as Americans decided to curb cruelties of capitalism. Now progressives in the United States advocate for almost doubling the minimum wage up to $15 per hour. The irony of this is that the minimum wage required to have a dignified life on the bottom of the middle class is today $50 per hour. Americans who, as Umair Haque claims, choose between their money and their lives are giving up aspirations of earning $50 per hour for the uncertainty of hope of being paid $15 per hour.
