In the history of humankind, some societies have been more prosperous than others. Some moved civilization forward, some backward. None of them were and ever will be ideal.

The era of Enlightenment popularized ideas that, in previous generations, proved to be beneficial to both individuals and societies.

When implemented, those ideas brought tremendous technological and economic progress. Like it or not, it was later called capitalism.

I suggest more reading. De Tocqueville, would be the best.
