Good report. As most Westerners, you do not understand Russia. Ukraine, (that name originates from the term meaning the edge of the country) is on the borderline between the Russian world and the rest of Europe. After getting independence, Ukraine drifted toward Europe, but Russia fell back into its old mentality. There is no political compromise between the two.
