I respond to your article only because it is at a prominent position in my today’s Medium Daily Digest email. I assume the Medium editors value your observations and see it worth it for others to read them.

You are a keen observer. You correctly caught many details, but you missed the big picture. Your advice is valid only in an environment where most of Medium members and your potential readers are other writers. Or, saying it less nicely, your advice is useful under the assumption that Medium is a club of aspiring writers who did not make it to the mainstream media.

You likely have heard that the public distrusts the mainstream media. The reverse side of that is that people seek alternative sources of information. Medium has everything needed to become that place. But to make this happen, writers do not need to focus on luring other writers to read their stuff. They need to aim much higher - at bringing the general public to articles worth reading but not published elsewhere.

Sadly, the leaders of Medium do not have these kinds of ambitions. For your reference, I wrote several articles on the subject. You can start with “Medium needs Robert Townsend as the CEO.”
