I suspect that whoever said that is an intellectually barren person aspiring to be a writer. The truth is the opposite; facts are fascinating but lazy minds have their potato chips writing to sell. In other words, facts are inconvenient. It takes work to find out what is going on, who does it, when, where, why, and how. It is easier to throw a few catchy lines here and there.
