It is the other way around. The Western nations reluctantly admitted former Soviet satellite states to NATO. Poland was strongly advocating for that, worrying about the revival of Russian imperialism. No one wants any piece of Russia; no one wants to interfere in Russia’s internal affairs. NATO presence was almost symbolic in Poland and the Baltic states until the Russian meddling in Ukrainian politics became a security threat for others.
