No one in Europe wants to conquer any part of Russia. Everyone wants to do business there.

Russia wants to regain control over former Soviet territories. Putin stated it indirectly as early as 2006. Ukraine asked for NATO protection after Russia took Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 2008.

It is not about NATO; it is about Russia controlling a reach country. It is Ukraine today, some other country tomorrow.
