Since I was old enough to handle household chores, my mother always encouraged me to take breaks from doing homework. Washing dishes or watering the garden is the perfect break from writing an essay or doing algebra. Those kinds of things one should learn to do instinctively before entering high school.

Today, on top of the recommendations in one of my MDD emails, I got the article “Take a F*cking Break.” The author managed to stretch his rumblings to a 3-minute read. The only strength of his reasoning is in using profanity in the title. A good writer calmly presents arguments to the point that the readers cannot refrain from words their mothers told them not to use. Bad writers use obscenities to get noticed. Can you put that in the algorithm?

The beauty of Medium is that everyone can post whatever they want. Facebook and Reddit are full of that stuff. As I heard, there is no way to beat Facebook on their turf. To survive, Medium needs to offer something more.
