How many of them did you drop on the street, into a river or an ocean? In the whole of my life, I did not do it even once. I was taught to behave this way, what is wrong with our society that others were not?

You are right about solar energy as ultimately the best one. But we cannot run faster than we can. It takes time to develop new technologies to the point that they will become economically viable. We are almost there. The government did not finance the industrial revolution in the 19th century. It does not need to fund the transition to solar energy now.
