The author writes: “Economic elites have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence.” In plain language, it means that we do not have a free market anymore. Instead of asking why we do not have the fee market, the author contradicts himself, claiming that “Market dependency is a profound state of unfreedom.” How the market, which does not exist anymore, can deprive us of freedom is a mystery that the author does not explain.
