The phrase about the poor wasting their time comes from the statistics about the poorest white Americans, as quoted by Charles Murray in his book “Coming Apart.” I make it very clear in my text. Extrapolating this statement on all poor people around the world is not implied anyhow in my essay. But it might apply in many circumstances similar to those presented in the mentioned book.
You write: “Socialists see human beings as essentially selfish, that’s why they seek to regulate their behaviour.” Let us be precise, the goal of socialistic regulations is to make people behave against their selfish human nature. Good luck with that. Corruption is the only real outcome. Capitalists have no illusions when it comes to the selfishness of human nature and see the free market as the best we can get.
