There is no community on Medium. The Medium leaders do not want it. They encourage individual writers to acquire followers.
Community implies authenticity in discussions of subjects of common concern. I experienced it twice in my media-related activities. The first was in 1972-73 during my journalistic internship in Warsaw. I wrote about it “What did I learn from the world’s best editor?” The second time it was in 2007, in the United States on the now-defunct internet-based social media initiative called U4Prez.com.
The venture grew like fire because it had a formula for authentic political debates. And It collapsed soon after the founders changed that formula to ensure that only views supported by them dominated the platform.
