I would add that, with globalization, there are fewer jobs in small and middle-size businesses, where one can easier find work as a fulfillment of life aspirations. In big corporations, we are more likely to sell our time and labor for cash, which means voluntary enslaving 40 hours per week. By nature, we prefer to work for ourselves; the popularity of platforms as Only Fans confirms that. I elaborate on this aspect in my article “We Work Less But Loathe It More.”

Lastly, I hear that many small businesses received threatening letters asking them to use e-Verify. I know of several illegal immigrants who lost jobs this way. The news are preoccupied with new illegal immigrants coming. The real news is that many of those who worked here illegally for 20 years or so retire early and return to their countries of origin.
