Wrong.
In 1980 I was told that there was nothing we could do in Poland because of the heavy hand of Soviet control. I asked if the Soviet Union would last forever and was treated as a dreaming idiot. But I was among a handful of political writers who tried to do whatever we could under the circumstances and to prepare Poland for the moment when the Soviet Union would be weaker.
The Soviet Union was due to collapse on its own devices, but I strongly believe that our work done in the 1970s, paved the road to Solidarity and contributed to the fall of the Soviet Union faster than it otherwise would.
