Dishonorable human behavior cannot be outlawed. And you cannot separate yourself from it.
Almost exactly 60 years ago, my mother got seriously sick. She went to the hospital, and her chances of surviving were uncertain for a few days.
My father was struggling with a bunch of small kids at home when an old lady from the neighborhood stopped by for a chat. I knew who she was as she was an acquaintance of a remote family. But we never socialized. I was too young to figure out the purpose of her visit. But I remember my father’s reaction after she left and his later reports on that case. She came to point my father’s attention to an available woman, just in case my mom did not make it.
“Facebook is evil because it is us,” as I wrote in my article.
BTW, my mom is in her 90s and doing fine.
